Ancient Egypt Trip October 2019

On Friday the 11th of October, Year 5 enjoyed a visit to Bolton Library and Museum to learn all about the Ancient Egyptians.

During the morning, the children had the opportunity to visit the art gallery, library and aquarium as well as finding out about animals and local history!

The children had lots of fun throughout the day and participated in an Ancient Egyptian workshop during the afternoon. This included organising a human timeline of Ancient Egyptian events, finding out information about the mummification process and even visiting a tomb with real mummies!

The children were able to get involved with lots of practical activities and dressing up in the Egyptian clothing was a real highlight of the trip.

Sumobot Group July 2019

Leigh Hackspace CIC, with support from Wigan Council, ran an after school project at XII Apostles school for children who were interested in Year 5 and 6 . Leigh Hackspace CIC is a non-profit organisation based in Leigh. Further information can be found on www.leighhack.org.

During the project the children constructed a “Sumobot”. This is a small two wheeled robot that the children designed ,built and programmed.

During the project the children :

  • Looked at materials to build their Sumobot.
  • Examined and tested different types of motors.
  • Used different sensors to control the Sumobot’s actions.
  • Programmed the Sumobot to take part in a sumo competition.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and certainly uncovered a multitude of talents.

Thank you to all the staff from Leigh Hackspace for giving the children this opportunity.
