Year 1 Chester Zoo - February 2020

As part of their Science topic ‘ourselves and other animals’ Mr Ahmed planned a trip to the Zoo.

The children thoroughly enjoyed finding out more about the animals. They reported that they loved watching them move around and eat. Mr Ahmed said that the children were so well behaved.

Well done year 1.

Highland Games - February 2020

Well done to our year 6 children who secured Gold Medals and the cup for coming first place in Highland Games after competing against other schools in the Leigh Lowton and Golborne Consortia.

Year 5, Mandy Beck Mckim - February 2020

The children in Year 5 have been working over the past few weeks with the artist Mandy Beck Mckim on producing a commemorative piece of art to represent the closure of XII Apostles Church. They produced sketches and then recreated these using textiles.

They are currently adding words to their display.

The work is near completion and looks amazing.

Year 1, Mandy Beck Mckim - February 2020

The children in Year 1 have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the artist Mandy Beck Mckim over the past few weeks. Through careful observations they have produced these detailed sketches to represent the seasons. These will be made into a digital piece that will be displayed in their outdoor play area.

I think you will agree these observational sketches are fantastic.

Young Voices concert at Manchester Area - January 2020

On Friday, the school choir - accompanied by Mrs Boon, Mrs Whitton and Mr Rowlands - attended the Young Voices concert at Manchester Area. The children formed part of a choir made up of 8000 children from around Greater Manchester and had the opportunity to sing with a host of famous faces. Not only did the children have a fantastic evening, they were also fantastic ambassadors for the school.

The Pop Project – Well Being Show - January 2020

This was a real success in getting across important messages about feeling good in BODY, MIND and SPIRIT.

  • BODY - Physical health: Healthy eating and physical activity.
  • MIND - Emotional health: Mental health, self-esteem, handling change, personal identity.
  • SPIRIT - Social health: Relationships, friendships, bullying, resilience, respect & tolerance.

The team used a unique mix of live music, dancing, video clips and interactive fun. Thank you to Graham, Henty and Carol for an entertaining and informative morning!

Year 2, 'Sparkle' A Nativity Story - December 2019

Year 2's performance of 'Sparkle' A Nativity Story was fantastic! They said their lines loud and clear and sang beautifully. It certainly got everyone into the christmas spirit.

Rugby Update November 2019

Our rugby team has had a brilliant start to the season despite the weather conditions. . They have played 4 games to date, against local schools and have remained undefeated.

Mr Moore has commended their sportsmanship and attitude throughout . It is also pleasing to see that a girl has taken up the opportunity to join the team.

Lest We Forget November 2019

The eco club have recycled plastic bottles to make these impressive poppies in memory of all those that have died as a result of war and conflict.

Our thanks goes to Mrs Gallagher and grandparents of children in school, Mr and Mrs Holehouse who have helped the children create such a wonderful memorial.

Ancient Egypt Trip October 2019

On Friday the 11th of October, Year 5 enjoyed a visit to Bolton Library and Museum to learn all about the Ancient Egyptians.

During the morning, the children had the opportunity to visit the art gallery, library and aquarium as well as finding out about animals and local history!

The children had lots of fun throughout the day and participated in an Ancient Egyptian workshop during the afternoon. This included organising a human timeline of Ancient Egyptian events, finding out information about the mummification process and even visiting a tomb with real mummies!

The children were able to get involved with lots of practical activities and dressing up in the Egyptian clothing was a real highlight of the trip.

Sumobot Group July 2019

Leigh Hackspace CIC, with support from Wigan Council, ran an after school project at XII Apostles school for children who were interested in Year 5 and 6 . Leigh Hackspace CIC is a non-profit organisation based in Leigh. Further information can be found on www.leighhack.org.

During the project the children constructed a “Sumobot”. This is a small two wheeled robot that the children designed ,built and programmed.

During the project the children :

  • Looked at materials to build their Sumobot.
  • Examined and tested different types of motors.
  • Used different sensors to control the Sumobot’s actions.
  • Programmed the Sumobot to take part in a sumo competition.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and certainly uncovered a multitude of talents.

Thank you to all the staff from Leigh Hackspace for giving the children this opportunity.

Our spectacular End of Year Production - Pirates of the Curry Bean July 2019

Wow! What a superb and professional performace this was. It was so uplifting to see how much the children enjoyed this experience. They were an absolute credit to their teachers and families. Some buddding actors actors in the making! A big thank you to Mr Rowlands for giving up his time to work with choir and planning and orgaiising this production. Thank you also to all thoses that helped him including Miss Travis who choreographed the dance , Miss Carney for helping with the lights and props and Mrs Marsden for her support and cameo role.

XII Apostles Rugby Team Secure John Woods Trophy - July 2019

Our Rugby team secured the John Woods Trophy after an outstanding performance. Ten local school competed for this prestigious award.

The man of the match was awarded to Bradley McDonough who is also the Captain however Mr Moore said he was proud of the whole team who demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and skill.

The John Woods Trophy is played as a knockout cup competition . The Trophy is a tribute to one of the best rugby players who has played for Leigh Centurions.
