Mental Health and Wellbeing

Mental Health and Wellbeing at Twelve Apostles Catholic Primary School

At Twelve Apostles Catholic Primary School, our mission — "Through learning and loving, we will follow Jesus" — guides everything we do. We believe that each child is a unique and precious gift from God, deserving of love, dignity and compassion. Rooted in Gospel values, we are committed to nurturing the mental health and emotional wellbeing of every child, parent and member of staff in our school family.

We recognise that emotional wellbeing is a vital part of every child’s development. When children feel safe, valued and supported, they are better able to flourish spiritually, socially and academically. That’s why we take a whole-school approach to promoting positive mental health—so that every individual knows they are loved, they belong, and they are never alone.

Through learning and loving, and by following Jesus:

  • We help children develop emotional resilience, kindness and empathy through our PSHE curriculum and daily interactions.
  • We create a caring environment where relationships are built on trust, respect and forgiveness.
  • Our staff are trained to identify and respond to emotional needs with sensitivity and care.
  • We work in partnership with families and external agencies to provide early and effective support when needed.
  • We have an annual, much loved, ‘Mental Health Week’, based around the five ways to wellbeing, where we teach our children lots of different strategies aimed at maintaining good mental health

Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead, along with our Pastoral and Safeguarding teams, are always available to offer support and guidance. If you ever have concerns about your child’s emotional wellbeing—or your own—please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Together, as a faith-filled community, we walk alongside one another, supporting every child to grow in confidence, love and faith.

What Should I Do If I Have a Mental Health Concern?

We have a caring and experienced team ready to support both children and families:

Mrs Stacey Stones – Safeguarding Lead

Mrs Sara-Anne Devlin – Mental Health Lead

If you’re worried about your child or someone else, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of our staff. Alternatively, you can speak to your child’s class teacher, who will pass the information on sensitively and appropriately.
