Liverpool Cathedral Visit - December 2025

Today, the children in The Catholic Life Group visited Liverpool Cathedral. They had a wonderful time participating in the annual advent service. The Christmas story was told by actors, dancers, singers and there was even a real donkey to remind us of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem! During the service we sang hymns, prayed together and were reminded of the true meaning of Christmas. We came away feeling hopeful and joyful as we patiently wait for the coming of Christ at Christmas.

Mary’s Meals - National Porridge Day - October 2025

On Friday 10th October we celebrated National Porridge Day! This was to support the work of the wonderful charity Mary’s Meals. Mary’s Meals is a charity, ensuring that children in the poorest countries eat one daily meal in their place of education. The charity began by feeding 200 children. It is now able to feed over 3 million children each year! We invited all children to bring ‘A Pound for Porridge’. Each child received a cup of porridge (just like the porridge given by Mary’s Meals). We also found out about this amazing charity and had lots of fun making porridge and adding lots of delicious toppings too.

All money raised will be donated to this charity, supporting them as they continue to feed the children in the poorest parts of the world. Thank you!

Mary's Meals - October 2024

On Thursday 10th October, it was National Porridge Day. As a school, we wanted to celebrate this day and raise money for the wonderful charity, Mary's Meals. Mary's Meals is a charity that provides cups of warm, nutritious porridge to hungry children around the world. This is provided within a place of education so that children may learn and be fed at the same time, therefore improving their chances of moving away from poverty as they grow.

The children at Twelve Apostles loved learning about the charity and raising lots of money as they brought 'a pound for porridge'.

We thought about the Catholic Social Teaching principles of Solidarity. Option for the Poor and how we must come together to help our global community. Well done to all of the children for a fantastic porridge day and for raising a wonderful £130 for Mary's Meals.

Pray in May - May 2024

The children in CAFOD Club want to encourage everyone to pray in May, the month of Mary. They decided to make rosary beads to help children pray the rosary. As we would like to raise money to create an outdoor prayer space, the children decided to put their rosary beads into bags and sell these. The bags also include a Hail Mary prayer card and a fairtrade chocolate. They wanted to ensure that the chocolate was fair trade as we have learned all about the importance of the Catholic Social Teaching Principle of Distributive Justice. To find out more about this, please visit the Catholic Social Teaching Section of our website. The children have decided to sell the bags for £2 each. All money raised will be used to create an outdoor prayer space within the school grounds.

As we continue to learn about Catholic Social Teaching, some volunteers from CAFOD came into school to explain this a little more. The volunteers explained the wonderful work of CAFOD and the difference that they make. We talked about the different principles of Catholic Social Teaching and how CAFOD fulfils these. We also thought about how we can fulfil these principles with small acts that make a big difference. Our RE Governor, Chris Lovelady also joined KS2 to play some CAFOD themed games. The children loved learning about the trade of bananas and the distribution of money. The children were shocked by how unfair the world can be! After much discussion, working out money and deciding what is fair, the children realised that it is always better to buy Fair Trade products!

Porridge Day - Mary’s Meals

At Twelve Apostles, we are always thinking about Catholic Social Teaching and how we can be more like Jesus. This term, we have been thinking specifically about living in solidarity with others. We raised money for the charity Mary’s Meals by holding a Porridge Day in school. This wonderful charity works with 18 of the poorest countries in the world. They provide a free meal (porridge) in a place of education each day. This encourages children to learn and ensures that they receive the food that they need to help them concentrate. Tuesday 10th October was National Porridge Day, a day to celebrate and raise funds for all those helped by Mary’s Meals. The children brought ‘a pound for porridge’ and enjoyed a cup of porridge in class. As a school, we managed to raise almost £150 for Mary’s Meals!

Advent Wreath - November 2020

On Sunday, we begin the season of Advent. We have learned all about this special time in Year Two today and the children have made their own advent wreath. It is filled with their advent promises of how they can become closer to God in this special time of waiting and preparation. Grace lit our first candle today. We will light another each week as we eagerly await the birth of Jesus!12 Apostles Advent

Learning all about Baptism - November 2020

In Year Two, we have been learning all about Baptism and the special signs and symbols of this sacrament. To end our topic, we planned a Collective Worship to celebrate everything that we had learned.

We made white garments and filled these with the signs and symbols of Baptism and we filled our focus table with baptismal candles, baptism certificates and The Word of God. Some of the children acted out the parts of the Baptism and we were even able to use the real font from XII Apostles church!

Collective Worship - June 2020

For the key worker and vulnerable children, Collective Worship has continued in school. In May, the children took part in a very special Collective Worship, thinking specifically about Mary, our Mother. In preparation for the worship, the children made their own rosary beads and they also made flowers to present to Mary within the Collective Worship. We prayed to Mary saying the words of the Hail Mary and we also sung special hymns such as Bring Flowers of the Rarest and Ave Maria. We even watched a live stream of the crowing of Our Lady from Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. We also painted stained glass windows and wrote prayers to hang on the prayer tree during the Collective Worship.

Spreading messages of hope through the lockdown - June 2020

Throughout lockdown, we have been keeping in touch with our community. The children of Twelve Apostles wrote letters and created stained glass windows for the people in our local care homes. This was to spread messages of hope, joy and reassurance that we were thinking about them and keeping them in our prayers.

On Friday 11th October, Year 4's afternoon tea extravaganza took place...and what a success it was! The children, helped by Dot, made scones with jam and cream, a selection of finger sandwiches and cakes all washed down with tea, coffee or juice. The children served their parents and guests and everyone left full and happy.

Our parents said;
"Wonderful afternoon tea. Food delicious. All children were well behaved."

Introduction to liturgy team - September 2019

Hello we are the liturgy for 2019-20; Praise, Alex, Ola, Connie, Kathryn and Evie. We applied for the position in the Summer because we wanted to plan collective worships for different classes and work with Mrs Newton and Father Kieran. We wanted to come together to plan how we can spread the good news. We are looking forward to planning and delivering assemblies for the whole school.

We are creative and have many ideas so watch for us. Please ask us any questions you would like.

We will introduce ourselves in assembly at the beginning of term.

We all want to work with you all to live out our mission statement and live out the gospel values. This will make our school a happy and loving place.

Please let us know if you want us to say a prayer for anyone special at our weekly liturgy team meetings.

Eucharistic Voices - July 2019

After problem with the traffic and minibus the Liturgy team finally arrived at the Crypt of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral to join in a wonderful celebration .Here, they sang songs with John Burland to Praise God and celebrate his love for us. As part of the Eucharistic Celebration, the children also reflected and prayed in the presence of God through exposition. The children saw Jesus in the Monstrance displayed on the altar. We were all blessed. We also listened to The Word of God and thought about how we must love others as God loves us. We talked and listened to God in our own way, thanking him and asking him to help us. The day was a wonderful celebration of God’s love for us.

Real Change Wigan and Leigh Charity Event - June 2019

On Friday 7th June all schools in the borough were encouraged to take part in a non-uniform day in return for each pupil donating £1 to Real Change Wigan and Leigh.

Launched last year in the borough, Real Change is a charity which supports people who are homeless to rebuild their lives. Real Change pays for practical items people need to build independent lives away from the streets. It may provide a deposit for a home, fund a training course or buy clothes for a job interview. All donations to Real Change go into one pot which is then distributed with the help of local charities and partners, including The Brick and Jigsaw Housing, so people can be confident their donation is going to the right place and will make a difference.

The children at XII Apostles supported this to help end homelessness. They raised £165. Thank You to all our children, parents and staff.

The Liturgy Team 2018-19

Hello we are the new Liturgy Team ; Abraham, Ellisyah, Mairead, James, Lilly and Isabelle

Every year the Liturgy team organises various events and activities to make our school happy and a holy place. We also spread the good news in our community through making and delivering cards to nearby neighbours. We also do charity work for our local community and global community. Each year we visit Christ the King Cathedral and take toys at Christmas for those less fortunate.

We like to plan and deliver collective worships and masses and work with Father Kieran, As you will notice there is a new space in the little class room where you can write prays and spend time with God and Jesus.

Memorial Service Monday 12th February 2018

In loving memory of Mrs Susan Twist: 9th October 1958 – 19th November 2017

The school community gathered with Mrs Twist’s family for this special remembrance service to celebrate her life and give thanks for all that she did for our school community.

Mrs Twist had been the business manager at XII Apostles for over 25 years and during that time impacted on the lives of so many. She was a dear friend and colleague to us all.

The liturgy team helped to prepare and lead the service. Mrs Twist loved ‘Take That’ so Mr Rowlands taught the children ‘Greatest day’ and they sang beautifully.

The children wrote poems, prayers, thoughts and memories and many were read out at the service. These were presented to the family in scrapbooks. Gary Senior attended the service on behalf of the archdiocese and presented the family with a certificate in recognition of Mrs Twist’s long service to the school.

The liturgy team worked with artist Victoria Hough to create a piece of artwork to be displayed in school as a permanent reminder of Mrs Twist. As you can see in the picture below they have included symbols to represent Mrs Twist and words and phrases taken from the book.

Father Kieran concluded the service by blessing the bench that Mrs Twist’s family had commissioned and that has been placed outside the office where she worked. To show our love and thanks balloons were sent up together with our prayers for Mrs Twist and her family.
