Autumn Term 2

Over the last half term, the children of XII Apostles have been learning about Catholic Social Teaching and the principles behind it. During our annual writing themed weeks, each class researched a different principle and then wrote a persuasive speech to the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, informing him of some of the problems of our world and asking for his help and action. They also shared them with their parents and families.

Their speeches are powerful, persuasive and passionate, and demonstrate what wonderful citizens our children are.

Here is Year 5's persuasive speech to enjoy!

Inspirational Visitor: Bart Gee - September 2023

On Monday 11th September, we had a very special visitor called Bart Gee who came to talk about turning disability into possibility. Bart himself was born with a condition that effects his muscles and his parents were told that he would never walk.

However, he refused to give up and not only did he learn to walk, but also swim, cycle, run and complete triathlons. Today, he also plays the piano and ping pong…amongst other things!

When we face challenges or find things difficult, Bart told the children to not think it’s ‘hard’ but instead, think it’s ‘possible’. What an inspiring person and what an enjoyable afternoon!

Eco Club Update - July 2023

Wonderful news!

School Council have secured the Eco School Award for Twelve Apostles School.

The children have worked incredibly hard in leading the school in becoming more eco friendly and that hard work has certainly paid off!

We are now recycling plastic, switching off lights and whiteboards in empty classrooms and we have established a bee friendly wildlife corridor.

We are so thankful to the local company J Murphy & Sons who have agreed to build a raised pond on our school grounds for FREE! This will be done in the school holidays so that it is ready when the children return in September.

In recognition of this hard work, we have received our Eco Schools flag and certificate. Eco club will build on the work started this year.

Well done School Council!

Well done to all of the children in the choir who performed so brilliantly in the recent production of porridge. They were absolutely fantastic and the audience were so complimentary about the standard of the performance. It truly lifted spirits and everyone left with a smile. All the children worked incredibly hard to learn all their lines and the words of the songs.

A huge thank you to Mr Rowlands and all the staff who gave up their time and helped the children prepare. It really was such a memorable occasion.

As part of their geography topic, Year 3 visited Merseyside. Their first stop was New Brighton where they walked along the seafront then stopped to make some observations and use their knowledge of compass points to draw what they could see in different directions. Then they went to Seacombe to board the Mersey ferry over to Liverpool. When in Liverpool, the children again used their geographical skills to observe the city and coastline. Year 3 then boarded the ferry again where they sat on the outside deck to observe both sides of the River Mersey.

Writing Festival - March 2023

For the last 3 weeks, we have been celebrating writing in our annual writing festival. This year, our theme has been conservation and how we can help to look after our world. We have decided that we want to become an Eco-School and gain the Green Flag award.

Each class studied a different area of climate change and wrote letters to our school council persuading them to focus on their area.

We celebrated the superb writing and all the other work we had completed around this theme with our parents in a writing showcase.

We will have to see who has been successful and which area the school council choose!
