Intu Film Festival
For completing their 100 book challenge, the children in Year 5 went to Warrington cinema to watch 'Kensuke's Kingdom', the film of a book they had read together in class.
Lancashire Mining Museum
As part of their local history topic, Year 5 took a trip to Astley Colliery and learned all about how coal was formed, mined and what life was like for a miner in the past. They had a train ride in a authentic man-rider and even experienced the steam powered engine at work. It was a fantastic day!
Career Presentation
We were fortunate enough to be visited by a former pupil, Maisie Halliwell, who talked to our Year 5 and 6 pupils about careers in nuclear energy. She also talked about her own career path after leaving Twelve Apostles and the skills she has needed and developed to get to where she is today. We are very proud of her and the children were definitely inspired!
Fire Service Visit
Our school was visited by our local fire service who talked to the children about fire safety in the home. They brought their fire truck and the children heard the sirens. They also talked about the skills and knowledge that you would need if you wanted to join the fire service.
Year 6 Borsdane Woods Trip - October 2025
On October 15th, Year 6 visited Borsdane Woods to help support their learning about forests as part of their South America topic. During their visit, the took photographs of the different layers of the forest and recorded different sounds to enrich their music unit.
Girls Football Tournament - William Fosters - October 2025
A huge well done to our XII Apostles girls’ football team, who took part in today’s tournament at William Fosters! 🙌
The girls were fantastic — they played some brilliant football, worked so well together, and showed amazing team spirit throughout. ❤️🖤
They successfully progressed through the group stages before being knocked out in the Round of 16, which is a brilliant achievement with so many schools taking part! 👏 To top off an already special day, the team even got to meet players from Wigan Athletic Ladies! 💙🤍

English Football League Kids 🏆 - October 2025
Our Year 5 & 6 team took part in today’s local round of the EFL Kids Cup at Laithwaite Park, competing against schools from across Wigan & Leigh! ⚽️
The children represented XII Apostles brilliantly — showing great teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship throughout. 👏
Panathlon Ten Pin Bowling Tournament 🎳 - October 2025
What a fantastic morning we had at the Panathlon Ten Pin Bowling Competition at Hollywood Bowl, Wigan!
Our amazing team represented XII Apostles brilliantly, showing teamwork, enthusiasm, and great sportsmanship throughout. 🌟
We’re thrilled to share that we finished 3rd place out of 22 schools — an incredible achievement! 🥉👏
Our total team score was an impressive 510 points!

Diwali Assembly with Mrs. Jesani - October 2025
On Monday 13th October, one of our parent governors, Mrs. Jesani, visited the school to talk to the children about the special Hindu festival of Diwali.
Diwali is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar. It is celebrated over five days, and this year it will take place on 20th October. Mrs. Jesani explained the meaning of each day of the festival and shared wonderful photos and videos showing how families celebrate Diwali.

Dream Big Day - June 2025
Today, the children have been dreaming big and have come to school dressed for their dream job. They've been thinking about their future careers and aspirations and have had talks from different sectors: theatre, media and advertising and HMRC.
Art and Music Themed Weeks - June 2025
For two weeks, the children of Twelve Apostles focused on developing their art and music skills around the theme of hope. They worked with an artist, took part in music workshops, played instruments, composed, sketched and created amazing pieces of art and music. Their final results were shared with parents including a spectacular gallery afternoon.
VE Day Celebrations
The children had a fantastic time during our tea party to celebrate VE Day. They took part in lots of fun activities from waltzing, to singing traditional war time songs. It was very important that together we remembered and reflected on this important part of our history.
Year 5 Art Trip - June 2025
As part of our art and music themed weeks, Year 5 visited the Metropolitan Cathedral in Liverpool and the Victoria Gallery and Museum. They were inspired by the beautiful artwork and stained glass in the cathedral and then took part in a workshop at the gallery.
Spanish Celebration - May 2025
We celebrated a Spanish morning where the children dressed in red and yellow and celebrated all things from Spain. Mrs Pierre, our modern foreign languages teacher, planned some lovely activities - the children learned about the culture, music and art of Spain and practised their spoken Spanish. To end the morning, they came together in the hall and sang a Spanish song.
Year 5 Tattenhall - May 2025
Year 5 went on their residential trip to Tattenhall where they had a wonderful time creating artwork and being in the outdoors. They looked at the artwork of Andy Goldsworthy and tried wire sculpting, printing, drawing and even creating outdoor artwork with sticks and natural found objects. They had a fantastic time and were a real credit to our school. Well done, Year 5!
Reception Trip to Smithills Farm
Reception Class had a wonderful time on their recent visit to Smithills Farm. They were able to learn about, stroke and feed lots of different farm animals. They were even able to ride donkeys and watch the cows being milked. The children had a fantastic day!
Storyland Live 2025 Reception and Year 1
On Tuesday 20th May, Reception and Year 1 visited Aviva Studios in Manchester to watch Storyland Live which was a live production of their BBC programme. The stories of Jack and the Beanstalk, The Hare and the Tortoise and The Enormous Turnip were told by the presenter and were accompanied by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra who helped to tell the stories. The children had a great time and they had the opportunity to learn about different instruments as well as listen to live music.
Year 3 Trip to New Brighton - April 2025
Year 3 went on a fantastic trip to New Brighton. They first boarded the ferry at Seacombe where they then drew New Brighton as a sketch map when approaching. They then sat along the New Brighton sea front where they drew another sketch map of the city of Liverpool.
Bradley McDonough Visits 12 Apostles - March 2025
This morning, we had a wonderful visit from past pupil, Bradley McDonough who came to speak to the children about his career in sport. Bradley has not only just signed for Leigh Leopards but is also the European Champion in MMA and World Champion in Ju-Jitsu...and he's only 17! He told the children about the importance of working hard in school, being disciplined, learning from failure and never giving up on your dreams. What an inspiration! Thanks very much!
Girls Football Event - March 2025
We had nine girls from year 3 and year 4 represent XII Apostles at the Barclays Football’s Biggest Ever Football Session today! Over 300 girls were at the event for Wigan School Games at Laithwaite Park for the Youth Sports Trust.
It was fantastic to have nine outstanding girls represent our school at the event to support #LetGirlsPlay. They were joined by players from Wigan Athletic Women team too!
Road Safety Key Stage 1 - March 2025
On Tuesday 11th March Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 took part in a special Road Safety Assembly this week! 🚸 The session focused on teaching children the importance of staying safe near roads, including the Green Cross Code:

This was a fun and interactive assembly to help our children develop essential road safety skills, ensuring they know how to cross the road safely and stay aware of their surroundings.
World Book Day - March 2025
We had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day. Mrs Newton visited school and read to the children. All the children took part in a choral speaking concert and recited some fantastic poetry. The children looked fantastic in their costumes. Thank you to parents and carers for supporting school.
Young Voices Concert Co-Op Live - February 2025
Last half term, the school choir - accompanied by Miss Hancock, Mrs Ackroyd, Mrs Whitton and Mr Rowlands - attended the Young Voices concert at Co-op Live Arena Manchester. The children formed part of a choir made up of 8000 children from around Greater Manchester and had the opportunity to sing with a host of famous faces. Not only did the children have a fantastic evening, they were also fantastic ambassadors for the school.

The Great Fire of London Workshop - January 2025
Year One continued to learn about the Great Fire of London in a brilliant workshop. During the workshop, they learned about the key people, roleplayed some of the key events and saw some of the artefacts that would have been used in the 1600s. This brought the real life event alive for the children and helped them to deepen their understanding.
Year 6: Robin Wood Activity Center - January 2025
This term, the children in Year 6 visited Robin Wood Activity center in Todmorden. During their stay, the children pushed themselves complete many different challenges whilst also being wonderful ambassadors for our school. A big well done Year 6!
Careers in the policeforce - November 2024
DC Hall came to talk to the children about careers in the police force. She shared her own story about how she had been told she couldn’t be a police officer as she was too short, and she was a girl. This didn’t stop her, and she persevered until finally becoming a DC! She told the children the importance of believing in your dreams, working hard and never giving up. She certainly was a real inspiration!
Year 5: Lancashire Mining Museum - November 2024
On 12th November, Year 5 visited the Lancashire Mining Museum as part of their local history and geography topic. They learned all about coal, mining and what it was like to work in the mines. They had a train ride and saw a twin tandem engine in action. It was a fabulous trip and the children thoroughly enjoyed learning about their local heritage.
Leigh Town Hall - October 2024
As part of their local history topic, Year 5 visited the archives in Leigh Town Hall. They looked at different artifacts that helped them learn about what Leigh was like in the past. They also carried out some fieldwork on Library Square, taking photographs of what they could see at the 8 different compass points.
BBC Philharmonic Orchestra - October 2024
On Thursday 9th October, Year 6 attended Aviva Studios in Manchester to watch the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra perform their 10 pieces concert. This was a great opportunity for the children and a thoroughly enjoyable day!
Careers in computing - September 2024
We had a visit today from Phil at ABTEC. He spoke to the children about careers in computing and the opportunities available. He told them about his own journey and the core skills that are needed to be successful in this, and most other careers.
Oracy week - September 2024
During our Oracy weeks, the children spent time learning and practising skills in spoken language. They considered how to project their voices, use expression and gestures and the importance of making eye contact with their audience. They spent time thinking about an aspect of our Mission Statement and then presented their work orally. At the end of the half term, they celebrated their work with a whole school assembly that showcased their wonderful achievements.
Shakespeare Workshop (Year 5) - June 2024
For three weeks, Year 5 studied Shakespeare's Macbeth. On Tuesday 25th June, they spent the whole day practising and rehearsing with a drama company and then performed their play...and they were incredible!
Smithills Farm Visit (Reception) - June 2024
During the Summer term, Reception Class visited Smithills Farm as part of the 'Come Outside' topic. The children had the opportunity to stroke and feed many different farm animals. They were also able to rides on donkeys and a tractor. The children really enjoyed their first school trip!
A Day as a Victorian (Year 2) - June 2024
The children in Year Two loved going to the Wigan Life Museum today. They learned all about what life was like during the Victorian Era. They learned about school life, home life and work life. The children really loved comparing Victorian items to modern day items and discussing which were the best. The children had a brilliant day.
Quarry Bank Mill Visit (Year 3) - June 2024
On Thursday, 13th June, Year 3 went to visit Quarry Bank Mill as part of their local History topic. They found out what life was like living in the 1700/1800s, what happened in a cotton mill and the role of the children in the mill.
Euro 2024 Launch Celebration - June 2024
This week we held a Euro 2024 competition to celebrate the launch of the Euro 2024 Football competition. We asked the children to find out about the competition, the players taking part or the countries taking part. The entries were so varied and creative, School Council had a difficult job judging the winners!
We had a fun afternoon learning about the competition and the countries taking part and the children looked fantastic in their sports kits. Good Luck England!
Twelve Apostles Summer Festival and Colour Run - June 2024
Thank you so much to our wonderful Friends of Twelve Apostles, all our volunteers and staff for supporting us with the Summer Festival and Colour Run. The event was a huge success and helped us to raise money for future school trips and visits and also for new books for the library.
Year 3's Geography Trip: Merseyside - May 2024
On Thursday 23rd May, Year 3 visited the coast in Merseyside as part of their geography topic around rivers, the landscape of the UK and coastlines. They went on the Mersey Ferry across the River Mersey and then spent some time exploring the seafront in New Brighton. It was a chance for them to see a coastline that had many features such as: port, the beach, wind turbines and a city.
Year 5's trip to Conway Centre: Tattenhall - April 2024
Year 5 went on their first residential visit to the Conway Centre in Tattenhall. They had two sessions with an artist creating wonderful paintings around the theme of space. They also enjoyed orienteering, an obstacle course, an outdoor climbing wall and getting stuck in trees! For some of them, this was their first time away from home...and they were fantastic! Their outwork is on display in school for everyone to admire and enjoy.
British Science Week - Spring term 2 - March 2024
Last week, we celebrated British Science Week with many exciting activities and investigations linked to scientific enquiry. The children thoroughly enjoyed the week and completed fantastic work linking to their chosen strand.
A big thank you to all who attended our science fair, which was a huge success. During this event, children showcased the work they had completed throughout British Science Week and Y6 led a range of interactive experiments for everyone to get involved in!
World Book Day - March 2024
We have had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day. The children looked fantastic dressed as their favourite book characters. This year we have focused on poetry and so the children took part in a choral speaking concert and recited some fantastic poems.

Year 5 York Visit - February 2024
In the Spring term, Year 5 visited York and the Jorvik centre to learn all about the Vikings. It was a very cold and snowy day, but in true Viking style they carried on and even made it to see the York Minster!

On Monday 5th February, we had a very special visitor to launch our Mental Health and Well Being Week.
Abby Hollywood came in to talk to us about her life as a blind lady and how she uses brail to help her read.
Abby has used her powers of resilience to overcome many difficulties, and her positive attitude and determination means she has achieved everything she has wanted to. She is a real inspiration!
